This show would be centered around species and landscapes “on the edge” of survival. It would highlight plant and animal species that are endangered, or threatened, or even extinct. ALSO areas of land set aside for conservation & preservation of these species. We would be presenting this show with the purpose of bringing attention to the beauty and fragility of some of California’s disappearing species, as well as promoting better protection and stewardship of our ecosystems. We can choose any natural spaces that we feel have been dedicated to the protection and preservation of nature.

We are looking for members that can be a part of our exhibition committee! Or any ideas of future exhibition locations!

WPW Monthly Members’ Meeting

Oil painter, poet and curator, based in Washington State. With a French father and a Mexican mother, her multicultural heritage informs a perspective deeply influenced by both European and Latin American traditions. She is recognized for her nocturne and naturalistic paintings, and her creative process draws on elements of romanticism, shape, form, and emotional resonance. https://www.eejacks.com/

Born in Zurich, Switzerland, early on, he challenged traditional schooling and the norms of education. He became a self-taught artist in drawing, painting, and eventually in music.Initially, he released instrumental experimental music beginning in February 2013 under the name of Olïa and released his first Vocal album in December 2018 under his own name. His first time exhibiting his paintings was in a group exhibition with Matthew Jackson in Oakland, California.In April 2018, Parhizi opened Wonzimer, a Los Angeles-based gallery space. Since its inception, the gallery has been a creative hub that has exhibited many important contemporary artists.

February 19 – ‘Life Studies” by Susan Vreeland

a collection of short stories that explore the impact of art on ordinary people, both historical and contemporary, often focusing on the lives of those on the periphery of famous artists like Manet, Monet, and van Gogh. The book features historical tales about figures like Monet’s gardener and Manet’s widow, alongside modern stories about a construction worker in a museum or a foster child finding meaning in art, all examining how art helps people navigate grief, loneliness, and confusion.

March 19 – “ArtCurious” by Jennifer Dasal

Stories of the Unexpected, Slightly Odd, and Strangely Wonderful in Art History by Jennifer Dasal is a book that explores fascinating, lesser-known stories behind famous artists and artworks, making art history accessible and entertaining for both novices and enthusiasts. Evolving from her popular podcast, the book covers topics like the CIA’s use of Abstract Expressionism, the mystery of whether painter Walter Sickert was Jack the Ripper, and the scandalous beginnings of Impressionism, all presented in a humorous and engaging way.

April 16 – “Julia Morgan: An Intimate portrait of the Trailblazing Architect” by Victoria Kastner
a comprehensive 2021 biography that explores the life and work of Julia Morgan, California’s first licensed female architect, known for designing over 700 buildings, most famously Hearst Castle. Drawing on previously unpublished letters, diaries, and interviews, the book offers a detailed look at her groundbreaking career, her relationship with William Randolph Hearst, and her personal life, presenting her as a resilient and visionary artist who overcame significant obstacles.
